The best place to stay for the Full Moon Party depends on the journey you want after leaving the beach. If walking back to your room matters most, begin with Haad Rin. If you want a base for a longer island holiday, compare Ban Tai and Thong Sala. If you are choosing a remote resort for its beach and quiet setting, solve the party-night transfer before confirming the room.
A cheap nightly rate is only part of the decision. The route home, music near the room, cancellation conditions and any minimum stay can change the value of a booking. Start with the actual party date and compare the total cost of the stay you would buy, including transfers.
This is an area guide rather than a ranking of hotels we have inspected. Properties change ownership, room configurations and policies. Use the location advice to build a shortlist, then confirm the details that matter directly with the property.
Haad Rin: choose convenience deliberately
Haad Rin is the natural starting point when the party is the main purpose of your visit. The event takes place on Haad Rin Nok, also known as Sunrise Beach. Staying nearby can remove the need to arrange a road journey at the end of the night.
That convenience comes with tradeoffs. The room you choose may be close to music, pedestrian traffic or the routes people use to leave the event. A listing’s general promise of a “peaceful stay” tells you little about one particular party night. Ask specific questions about the room you are reserving.
Look beyond the map’s distance marker. An easy route through the village may be more useful than a shorter-looking route with steps, a steep section or access that changes after dark. Ask the property to describe how guests walk back from the party beach.
If you want to leave early, a room close to the event is practical only if you can rest there. Check whether windows face the beach, whether the property operates a bar or event, and whether there is a quieter room category. Nobody can guarantee silence in a busy area, but clear answers help set expectations.
For first-time visitors who dislike negotiating transport late at night, paying more for a sensible walking route may be a worthwhile choice. Compare the premium with the cost and inconvenience of two transfers, rather than judging the room price alone.
Sunrise side, sunset side and Leela Beach
Do not treat every Haad Rin address as beachfront access to the party. The peninsula has more than one shoreline. Sunrise Beach is the event location; the western side faces the sunset. A room described only as “Haad Rin” needs a closer look.
The sunset side can appeal if you want to remain in the area while sleeping away from the main party shoreline. It still needs a route check, and being across the peninsula does not establish how much music reaches a particular room. Ask about the building position and party-night access rather than assuming that a beach name guarantees quiet.
Leela Beach, also known as Haad Seekantang, lies south of the village. It can be attractive for travellers who want a beach setting near Haad Rin, but inspect the walking route carefully. Steps, slopes and the position of your actual room can matter after a long night.
A listing photograph taken beside the sea does not show the full journey between reception, your room and the party. If walking is central to your choice, request a route description and check whether the property recommends it after dark. A straightforward answer is more valuable than an optimistic “near everything”.
Couples with different priorities can use this approach to compromise: choose a room with beach time and a manageable route, then agree how much of the night you want to spend at the event. Neither person needs to commit to sunrise simply because the hotel is nearby.
Ban Tai and Ban Kai: useful for a wider island stay
Ban Tai and Ban Kai are areas to compare when you want to stay beyond the immediate Haad Rin peninsula. They suit an itinerary in which the Full Moon Party is one evening within a longer visit, provided you arrange transport for that night.
Their main advantage is choice of setting. You can look for beach accommodation, a sociable hostel or a property whose layout suits a group. Their main limitation for this event is the journey home. Do not assume that being on the southern side of the island makes the return a comfortable walk.
Ask each property how it handles Full Moon Party transfers. A useful answer identifies the pickup point, return arrangement and any date-specific cost. “Taxis are available” leaves the most important decisions until later.
Check whether the property itself hosts parties or sits near another nightlife venue. Staying away from Haad Rin is not automatically the same as booking a quiet room. Look at recent information for the actual property and discuss noise if sleep is a priority.
Ban Tai can be a sensible middle choice for a group that wants beach days, restaurants and a single organized evening in Haad Rin. Compare a shared return vehicle with individual fares. Confirm whether the quote is per passenger or for the whole group before treating it as a saving.
Thong Sala: plan around the port and town
Thong Sala is worth considering if arrival logistics and onward travel shape your trip. It is a different base from Haad Rin, with the party requiring a road journey. Arriving at the port and staying nearby can simplify the first day, particularly when travelling with bags.
Check the precise location, even here. A property described as near Thong Sala may not be a comfortable walk from your arrival terminal with luggage. Ask about collection or agree the final road transfer before you travel.
For a longer visit, a town base can work well when you prefer organizing day trips and moving around the island. For a holiday focused only on the party, assess whether the transfer adds more complexity than you want. Your decision should reflect the nights you will actually spend there.
Avoid planning an early departure purely because your room is near the pier. You still need to wake up, check out, reach the correct counter and meet the operator’s reporting time. An all-night event makes an otherwise ordinary morning less forgiving.
If you choose Thong Sala, arrange the party return before going out and keep the property pin saved. A driver needs the exact accommodation, not a broad instruction to go back to town. Share those details with everyone in your group.
West-coast beaches and the northeast
Sri Thanu, Haad Yao and other western beach areas may be the right choice for the holiday you want. Thong Nai Pan on the northeast coast can also appeal for a beach resort stay. The question is whether that base still works on party night.
For perspective, Anantara Rasananda identifies its address as Thong Nai Pan Noi Beach. That is a separate location from Haad Rin, despite both appearing under Koh Phangan in booking searches. A prestigious resort or beautiful beach does not make every event convenient from its doorstep.
Ask a remote property for the full outbound and return arrangement. Find out whether transfers use roads, boats or both, whether late service is offered and what happens if conditions prevent a planned boat trip. Ask about cost before making a nonrefundable booking.
If the party is one optional evening, you may prefer to keep your ideal beach base and decide later whether the logistics appeal. If attending is essential, confirm those logistics first. The mistake is paying for a remote room while assuming the journey will somehow be easy.
Another option is to split the stay: spend party night in Haad Rin or a southern base, then move to a quieter beach after resting. Include the extra packing, checkout and transfer in the decision. Changing rooms immediately after an all-night event may be less appealing than it sounds during planning.
Hostel, bungalow or hotel?
A hostel can help solo travellers meet people before the party. Check the dorm size, locker arrangements, bathroom access and property rules. A sociable atmosphere is useful only if the practical setup also suits you.
Ask whether a dorm bed includes bedding, whether there is secure storage and when reception is staffed. Do not assume that a lively hostel runs a supervised group return from the party. Confirm any organized activities separately and keep your own way home.
A bungalow may offer outdoor space and a more private feel, but inspect its location within the grounds. Some rooms require steps or a longer path from reception. Ask about lighting and access after dark, especially if you plan to return on foot.
A hotel room can be worth paying for when privacy, air conditioning or a predictable rest day matter. Check the room features actually included in the rate you select. A hotel's best photograph may show a different category from the one being offered.
Groups should confirm occupancy limits and sleeping arrangements. Do not book a room for fewer people and assume extra guests will be accepted on arrival. Make sure each person knows the check-in requirements, payment responsibility and cancellation terms.
Read the conditions around the headline rate
Search using your exact dates and correct number of guests. Compare the full payable amount, including taxes and mandatory charges shown at checkout. A low search-result price may not represent the room or stay you need.
Check whether a minimum stay applies to your chosen dates. Conditions vary by property and booking offer; do not assume every hotel imposes the same requirement. Multiply the complete stay cost before comparing a convenient room with a cheaper-looking alternative.
Read cancellation deadlines in the property's local time and note whether payment is taken immediately. If the event date or your travel plans change, a flexible room can be worth more than a small saving on a restrictive rate.
Understand deposits, security arrangements and any damage charges. Ask for a receipt and use the payment channel specified by the legitimate property or platform. An unexpected request to move payment elsewhere deserves verification through a contact you independently trust.
Check arrival and departure times. If your ferry arrives before check-in, ask about baggage storage. If you want to sleep after the party, consider booking the following night instead of relying on an unconfirmed late checkout.
Questions worth sending to your shortlist
Tell the property your exact dates and that you are attending the Full Moon Party. Ask which beach it is near, how guests return after the event and whether the recommended walking route is lit and accessible throughout the night.
Ask where the specific room sits relative to bars, roads and communal areas. If quiet matters, request the most suitable available category and understand that an area-wide event can still be audible. Keep the reply with your reservation.
Confirm reception hours, room access after midnight, luggage storage and any transfer booking deadline. For a hostel, ask about lockers and what size bag they hold. For a hillside property, ask about steps and help with luggage.
Give accurate information about mobility needs or other access requirements. A property cannot assess suitability from a generic request for a “nice room”. Ask practical questions about the path, bathroom and boarding arrangements if transfers are involved.
Choose for the night you want
Choose Haad Rin when an uncomplicated walk home matters most, then investigate the room and noise. Compare Ban Tai or Ban Kai when you want a broader island base and can arrange a reliable return. Consider Thong Sala when port logistics and onward travel are important.
Keep a more remote beach stay when it suits the holiday as a whole, with a confirmed transfer if the party is essential. Wherever you stay, the best booking is one whose terms, location and route home you understand before arriving. That preparation is far more useful than a hotel ranking that ignores how you plan to spend the night.
