Weather cancellations and safety

Check forecasts, understand safety decisions and learn your options when weather, official closures or force majeure affect an activity.

Tripnatic-approved guidanceReviewed 4 October 2026

Quick answer

Safety comes first. If the operator cancels your activity because conditions are unsafe, you may accept a suitable reschedule or request the eligible refund under your booking terms.

PLAN BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

Check the forecast for your route

Use forecasts to prepare, then follow official warnings and the operator's confirmed decision. A forecast alone does not cancel or reschedule a booking.

Choose your activity destination

Check the route, departure point and offshore area, not only the weather at your hotel.

WIND & MARINE PLANNING

Windguru

Compare wind speed, gusts and available marine forecasts. Check the spot location, forecast model and update time.

Koh SamuiOpen Windguru forecast

A regional forecast spot may not match your exact departure or route.

Forecasts open on the provider's website in a new tab. Check its latest update, selected date, units and timezone. Forecasts help you plan; they do not confirm that your tour will operate.

SAFETY DECISIONS

Who decides whether a tour goes ahead?

The operator assesses the activity

The operator considers the vessel or vehicle, route, visibility, wind, waves, lightning, flooding and the needs of the group. There is no single rain or wind limit that applies to every tour.

Authority restrictions take priority

A port, park, road or local authority closure can stop an activity even if the weather at your hotel looks clear. Follow official restrictions and the operator's safety instructions.

Conditions can change quickly

A decision may be made close to departure or during the activity. Check booking messages before pickup and keep your contact details available.

  • Traveler preference not to attend in ordinary rain is handled under the normal cancellation policy.
  • Sea, wind and authority restrictions may differ from weather at the hotel.
  • Never travel against an official safety instruction.

BEFORE PICKUP

What to do when bad weather is expected

  1. 1

Open My Trips and check the activity date, local departure time, pickup instructions, messages and cancellation deadline.

  2. 2

Check official warnings and contact the operator if the route or pickup is unclear. Do not travel against a closure or emergency instruction.

  3. 3

If the operator cancels, confirm your preferred available option in writing. A new date or replacement is agreed only when the booking confirmation updates.

  4. 4

If the cancellation, refund or reschedule is not reflected in your booking, send one booking-linked support ticket with the operator's message and your requested outcome.

YOUR OPTIONS

What happens to your booking?

The operator cancels

You may accept a suitable replacement or reschedule, or request the eligible refund for the affected booking. A replacement or credit is not accepted automatically for you.

The route changes for safety

Reasonable changes to the route, departure time, vessel, vehicle or stops do not automatically create a refund when the essential booked experience is still delivered.

The essential experience is reduced

A material reduction or undelivered paid component is reviewed for an appropriate reschedule, price adjustment or refund of the affected part. Report it through the booking with supporting details.

You choose not to attend

If the activity operates safely and no applicable exception applies, your normal cancellation deadline and no-show terms apply. Contact support if an official restriction prevents you from reaching it.

EVENTS OUTSIDE CONTROL

Force majeure and official closures

Serious events outside reasonable control may prevent, delay or materially change an activity. Examples include severe weather or natural disaster, fire, epidemic, war, terrorism, civil disorder, government or authority action, port, park or border closure, widespread transport interruption, infrastructure failure or industrial action affecting delivery.

Tripnatic and the operator will assess the affected and undelivered portion using official information, the recorded booking terms and applicable law. Available outcomes may include a later departure, a reasonable substitute, credit accepted voluntarily by the customer, or a refund of the eligible undelivered amount. Travelers must follow emergency and authority instructions first.

A poor forecast or personal change of plans is not automatically force majeure. If an official restriction prevents you from attending, keep the relevant notice and ask for a booking-specific review before treating the booking as a normal customer cancellation.

REFUNDS & BOOKING TERMS

How your refund is assessed

The selected activity normally uses one of five standard options: a 24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour or seven-day cancellation window, or non-refundable after confirmation. The exact option and local cutoff shown at checkout control.

The activity-specific terms saved when you booked govern your cancellation deadline and eligible amount. This page explains those rules; it does not replace your booking confirmation, Booking Terms or Cancellation and Refund Policy.

An eligible refund covers the affected undelivered amount and cannot exceed what you paid. Completed activities or used components are assessed separately. A multi-tour cart is not automatically refunded in full when one activity is cancelled.

Where permitted by law, non-recoverable payment-processing fees may be deducted. The refund review shows the eligible amount, applicable fee and net refund. Refunds normally return to the original payment method and transaction currency.

Your mandatory consumer rights, including any applicable rights under Thai tourism and consumer-protection law, take priority over a conflicting booking term, fee deduction or refund deadline. You may request a review or contact the relevant authority if you disagree with the outcome.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you change your plans

Does a rain forecast cancel my booking?

No. A forecast or weather icon is a planning aid, not a cancellation confirmation. Light or short rain does not automatically cancel an activity. Check the operator's written update and the booking status.

Can I request a refund instead of another date?

If the operator cancels or cannot provide the essential booked service, you may request the eligible refund instead of accepting a replacement or reschedule. Credit is voluntary. The saved booking terms and mandatory legal rights determine the amount.

What if the weather worsens after departure?

Follow the guide or captain's instructions first. The operator may return early, shelter or change the route. Report any material undelivered part through the booking so the appropriate remedy can be assessed.

What if several tours in my trip are affected?

Each activity is assessed separately. A cancelled boat tour does not automatically cancel a land tour or a booking with another operator. Identify every affected booking when requesting help.

What if there is a warning but no booking update?

Contact the operator through the booking and ask whether your route or pickup is affected. Do not travel against an official restriction. Keep the notice and messages, and contact Tripnatic support if the decision or booking status remains unclear.

Are my hotel, flights or other travel costs covered?

Separate travel costs are not automatically included in the activity refund. Check your travel insurance and the relevant supplier's terms. Any compensation required by applicable law remains unaffected.

SUPPORT & OFFICIAL SOURCES

Keep the decision connected to your booking

Include your booking reference, activity date, affected tour, operator messages, relevant authority notice and whether you want a reschedule or refund. Preserve evidence only when it is safe to do so. Do not send passwords or full card details.

In an emergency, follow local authority instructions and contact local emergency services first. A support ticket is not an emergency response channel.
