Koh Samui nightlife guide: Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut compared

Find your kind of Samui evening, from Chaweng beach parties to Lamai live music, Bophut dinners and a slower start beside Bang Rak's sea.

Destination-first planning9 minute readUpdated October 15, 2026
Illuminated pool and bar at ARKbar Beach Club in Chaweng, Koh Samui

Samui nightlife is spread across several towns. A bar described as being in Bophut may be in Fisherman's Village, Bang Rak or the wider administrative district, so the name alone is not enough for a taxi booking. Save the actual venue pin. A good evening usually stays in one area instead of crossing the island between every drink.

This guide is about where to go out. For the hotel decision, compare where to stay on Koh Samui. The Koh Samui destination guide puts the beaches and day trips in context.

Chaweng: the beach-party and nightclub route

The useful reference points are Chaweng Beach Road, the central beachfront and Soi Green Mango, the entertainment lane inland from the beach road. These are more helpful than asking a driver for “Chaweng nightlife”, which can mean a broad stretch of town.

ARKbar: beach, DJs and fire entertainment

ARKbar Beach Club sits directly on Chaweng Beach. It combines a beach venue, pools, DJs and fire entertainment. Choose it when sand, a sea view and a party atmosphere are part of the attraction. It is not the same experience as an enclosed nightclub or a quiet cocktail bar.

Use the ARKbar location search to identify the road entrance before arriving. For a group, ask about a table, seating zone and any minimum spend. Watching from a restaurant table, a standing area or the sand can involve different arrangements. Event packages can also differ from an ordinary evening.

Green Mango Club: make dancing the main event

Green Mango Club is the established big-club choice in central Chaweng. Its programme centres on DJs and a large party setting. Choose it for a dance-focused night rather than a long conversation over dinner.

Put Green Mango Club, Koh Samui into your map app, then use Soi Green Mango as the street reference. Do not confuse a hotel or restaurant using “mango” in its name with the club. Check its official event page for the night you are actually going; an old flyer is a poor reason to travel across the island.

Hush: choose it for the music, not just the nearby crowd

Hush Bar is on Soi Green Mango, with hip-hop, R&B, Afrobeats and Amapiano among its advertised music styles. That gives you a useful choice within the same nightlife pocket: try Hush when urban music is the priority, and compare the current Green Mango programme when you prefer a different DJ night.

Hush currently advertises opening from 9pm and says its busier atmosphere builds after 11pm. Treat that as a starting point for planning, then check the event calendar. A quiet room early in the evening does not tell you how the same venue will feel later.

A workable Chaweng evening

  • Around 7pm: have dinner around central Chaweng Beach Road. Eat before committing to a loud table or a late club session.
  • Around 8:30pm: choose a beachfront stop such as ARKbar if that night's entertainment appeals to you.
  • Later in the evening: move inland to Soi Green Mango and pick Hush or Green Mango according to the music, queue and atmosphere you find.
  • Before moving again: decide whether another venue would improve the night. Staying at the place you enjoy is usually better than ticking off every name.

This is a suggested sequence, not a promise about event times. The central stops can be linked on foot using public streets, but use a road map rather than assuming every hotel has a public route through to the beach. Agree a pickup point outside the busiest lane so your driver is not trying to find you in a crowd.

Lamai: live music, sport and a smaller evening circuit

Use Lamai Beach Road in the central town as the starting area. Bondi Lamai gives a particularly clear meeting point: its own venue page places it opposite the Thai boxing area on the beach road. It advertises both live music and live sport, which can produce very different evenings.

For a band-led night, ask which act is playing and when the music starts. For a match, check the fixture, sound and screen arrangements. A table suitable for following a game may be less suitable for a quiet meal or for sitting close to a band. The Bondi live-music page helps distinguish the programme from a general bar listing.

A good Lamai plan is dinner, a short look along the central beach-road bars, then one music stop. It suits travelers staying in Lamai who want an evening out without arranging two cross-island journeys. Choose food to suit the night: a full meal before the band, or a shared pub-style dinner while watching sport. Check the actual menu rather than assuming a venue serves a particular dish.

If you prefer beach-party dancing, choose Chaweng deliberately. If you want a band, a pub table and a short journey back to your Lamai hotel, there is no need to go north just because Chaweng has the bigger party reputation.

Bophut: Fisherman's Village, dinner and Coco Tam's

Fisherman's Village is on Bophut's north coast, not in Chaweng and not in the Hua Thanon fishing community in the south. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's village page describes its waterfront restaurants and shops. Make the beachfront street your walking area and choose one restaurant rather than planning a rapid bar crawl.

Coco Tam's is a specific choice for a beach-bar evening and fire entertainment in Fisherman's Village. Save its Bophut map search. Ask about restaurant seating versus beach seating, reservations, minimum spend and that evening's show arrangements. A beachfront venue does not mean every seat has the same view.

For an easy dinner-and-show plan, arrive with daylight left, look along the village waterfront, have dinner and settle into the venue you have chosen. Leave time before any advertised show instead of arriving at the last minute expecting the best beach seats. If a busy table-and-show setting is not your preference, keep the village walk and choose a quieter dinner elsewhere along the waterfront.

Market stalls add another food option when operating. Use our Samui night-market food guide to choose between a street-food evening and a restaurant booking. Those are different meals and budgets; there is no need to fit both into one night.

Bang Rak: Chi Samui or a beachside meal at Mui Mui

Bang Rak, also written Bangrak, runs along the north-coast beach-road area near the airport side of the island. Use the venue's pin, because a general “Bophut” address can cover a much larger area.

Chi Samui is on Bang Rak Beach at 16/4 Moo 4. Its official site lists a beachfront restaurant, pool and swim-up bar, plus sunset DJ sessions. It is a useful choice for an afternoon that becomes dinner and drinks, or a music-led early evening without starting in central Chaweng. Ask about daybeds, pool use and reservations before assuming they are included with a drink.

Mui Mui at The Culture Samui is another named option on Bang Rak Beach. The resort lists a beachfront restaurant and a separate beach bar, with southern Thai flavours among the restaurant's focus. It suits a meal-led evening. Check kitchen and beach-bar hours separately; one can finish serving before the other.

These are alternatives to compare, not an instruction to visit both. For a proposed plan, arrive before dusk, choose a table with the setting you want, order dinner and stay if the atmosphere works. Sunset colour depends on the season, cloud and direction of the view, so the meal should still be worthwhile without a dramatic sky.

Match the night to your group and budget

  • Friends who want clubs: central Chaweng, then Soi Green Mango. Pick between venues by music rather than promotional superlatives.
  • A band or a match: Bondi Lamai, after checking the actual programme.
  • A date with a show: Fisherman's Village and a Coco Tam's reservation or seating check.
  • Afternoon-to-evening beach club: Chi Samui, with access and seating confirmed.
  • Dinner and conversation: Mui Mui or a waterfront restaurant in Fisherman's Village, after checking nearby sound levels.

Compare the whole bill: transport both ways, food, drinks, entrance or event tickets, table minimums and service or tax additions shown on the menu. A free-entry venue can still be an expensive choice if you select a premium table. Ask what a deposit pays for and keep the booking confirmation.

Getting home without turning the evening into a transfer problem

Save your hotel's exact entrance and the venue pin before leaving. For hillside villas, tell the driver about steep access and agree whether the final climb is included. Arrange the return fare or booking method before drinking, keep your phone charged and use a clear road pickup point.

Travel time between Lamai, Chaweng and the north coast varies with the actual hotel, traffic and pickup location. Check the route that evening rather than trusting a single island-wide journey estimate. Within an area, inspect the walk: a short map distance may involve traffic, an unlit stretch or a hotel entrance that does not connect to the beach.

Leave an early boat day room for sleep. Our Koh Samui activities show departure and pickup details; a late club night is easier to enjoy when the next morning is flexible. Do not drive after drinking or add a late swim to the journey home.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the main nightclub street on Koh Samui?

Soi Green Mango in central Chaweng is the key reference for Green Mango Club and Hush. Chaweng Beach Road and the central beach provide nearby dinner and beach-party options.

Which venues should I compare for different music?

Compare the current programme at Green Mango with Hush's advertised urban-music focus. For live music in Lamai, check Bondi's band schedule. Choose the event as well as the venue.

Where can I have dinner and see a fire show?

ARKbar in Chaweng and Coco Tam's in Fisherman's Village are named starting points. Check the current show and seating arrangements with the venue before setting your dinner time.

Do I need to move between several areas?

No. One area with dinner and one entertainment stop is a complete evening. The Chaweng beach-to-Soi Green Mango route is a more practical multi-stop plan than repeatedly crossing between Lamai, Chaweng and Bophut.

Venue sources and map planning

The linked official pages are the starting points for current programmes, menus and bookings: ARKbar, Green Mango, Hush, Bondi Lamai, Coco Tam's, Chi Samui and Mui Mui. Venue details were checked in October 2026; confirm the date-specific details before going. The example evening times above are Tripnatic planning suggestions, not advertised opening schedules.
